Chocolate Donuts!

Good people of West Parish,

I was so shocked! So surprised! Not appalled or disappointed, but simply caught off guard. I had no idea!

If you were in church on Sunday, then you know what I’m talking about: Some of you still buy DONUTS!!!

I know. It’s a shocker. (You in the Men’s Group must have had the biggest chuckle.) For the First Sunday of Lent, we heard the traditional reading of Jesus in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. And I had plate of chocolate donuts as a “temptation.” And even though I offered them to many of you after the service, sitting in my office later that afternoon, I still had 2 donuts left.

So what did I do? I breathed. I paused. I felt my feelings of joy, gratitude, exhaustion and concern… and then I ate those donuts. (Boy, they were good. Thank you, God.) So I bless you all on your Lenten journey — may we all continue to pay attention to our temptations, notice our feelings, take a moment to pause, and then (perhaps) enjoy the good gifts of God!
