Good people of West Parish,
Tomorrow is the Global Climate Strike. Children, youth and adults from all over the world will walk out of school and work to bring attention to our climate crisis. Last year’s report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said that “urgent and unprecedented changes are needed” within the next 12 years to prevent disastrous and irreversible changes to our planet.
Many would argue that climate change is our most pressing challenge, but there are many. When I scroll through the Washington Post headlines each morning, I am astounded by the human suffering, both personal and global. What do we do with all this pain?! — the pain of the world and our own personal loss and suffering?
Our tradition has an answer for that: the prayer of lament. Join us this Sunday as we explore lament in the Judeo-Christian tradition, and how it is not just complaining to God, but leads us to strength.
