It's almost Christmas! And I feel a giddy excitement about this day arriving. Maybe it's because we have been through SO FREAKING MUCH in the past 9 months that this familiar celebration is a balm for our spirits. Even though it will be on Zoom, I cannot WAIT to belt out, "Joy to the world, the Lord is come...!"
Or maybe I'm so excited because the message of Christmas feels so relevant and piercing right now: into a world of suffering and empire, came a baby - God's very presence - to reveal hope and love to us. And God is still revealing this hope and love! Let's stand in awe of this truth, Good People: Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light!
Many of us will have a very different Christmas this year: the tree is not up, we won't see family, there will be no Christmas dinner, we are bent under the weight of grief and isolation. These things are true - but let us not forget that Jesus is still born, God still arrives, and Christmas Eve will still be beautiful.
Joy to the world, and blessings to you!!
