After worship on Sunday July 5, I'll be starting my vacation, which (as much as I love each and every one of you) I desperately need! The last four months have been challenging beyond anything we could have imagined. S o I will be staring at the wall in my house for awhile (seriously), and then I hope to sit in a chair like the ones above, and stare at a lake for awhile.
But we ALL need rest! Whether we are exhausted from re-inventing our job or caring for children or managing the risks or constantly making decisions or watching the news... we are TIRED.
Let yourself stare at a wall! Or a lake! Or the sky! We have all been taught that being productive makes us worthy, that accomplishments makes us valuable. But Jeus says to us this Sunday (Matthew 11:28) "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." We are of more value than many sparrows.
May you find rest this summer, even in your living room.
While I'm away, Rev. Debra Adams from Trinitarian UCC in North Andover will be providing pastoral coverage. So if you have an urgent pastoral need or an emergency, call the church office and leave a message in the Administrator's (Larisa's) mailbox. Please note that I will be totally unplugged, so not responding to emails or calls until my return on July 28.
Blessings, Good People!
