All Are Welcome
We welcome all
We believe that we are called to love one another as God loves us. We welcome all people of faith, or in search of faith, without regard to age, marital status, race, national origin, gender, economic condition, physical or mental challenge, or sexual orientation.
West Parish is a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC), a community of faith that believes in extravagant welcome. This is why we insist that God's communion table is open, not closed, and God's gift and claim in baptism are irrevocable. We advocate justice for all. We extend hospitality as a sign of God's inclusive love. We teach that evangelism — offering bread to those in search of it — is God's mission. Our perspective is global, not provincial. We work with — not against — people of other faiths.
We are Open and Affirming
West Parish Church voted on its statement of welcome, and became an Open and Affirming (ONA) congregation, in 2003. Since that time, we have continued to learn and grow in our welcome for all people. Folks who are LGBTQIA+ have proudly served as our ministers, staff, elected leaders and worship participants. We celebrate weddings for all couples, and offer the sacrament of baptism for everyone, from infants through adults. Everyone, and every family, is welcome at West Parish!
In 2023, the West Parish congregation voted to call the Reverend Renee Manning as our Minister in the Community. Renee’s work focuses on education and outreach around LGBTQIA+ welcome and justice. Renee preaches at churches around New England, offers presentations on LGBTQIA+ issues, and is available to share her own story. Contact Renee to discuss her availability for coming to your church or organization!
We offer a ten-step Transgender Welcoming Guide if your congregation is beginning its journey to welcome people of all gender identities and gender expressions.
