When did we see you?

We are on day seven of Lent. (The season of Lent is "40 days", but it is really 46 days because the Sundays "don't count.") If you are following along the days of Lent with your paper chain, you will know that today's link in the chain says this: "Do an internet search to find organizations that serve refugees in your area. Find out what they need, how you can volunteer, and then make it happen!

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Matthew 25:35."

This passage has special meaning and connection for all of us in the West Parish community because it is the passage depicted in our chapel windows. Perhaps you were with us this summer when we reflected on each of the six windows: Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Welcome the stranger. Clothe the naked. Care for the sick. Visit the prisoner.

Today is the fourth anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine. Some Ukrainian people have been welcomed to the United States as refugees. Others remain in their cities and towns, suffering bombings, power outages, food shortages and constant fear. Other refugees fear their status may be revoked, or they may be detained.

How might we support the refugees in our midst? How might we feed the hungry and welcome the stranger? (MIRA or IINE are two places to learn more.) How is God calling us to stand with the vulnerable in this wilderness time? How do the words of Jesus resonate with you today?
